March 10 sees the release of Lilly Louisa, the latest track from Holmar Filipsson & Sasse, on Thugfucker Recordings. Sasse and Holmar started working together in 2001 under the moniker Mr Negative (along with Olivier Spencer of Still Going/DFA), forming a "slightly overweight boy-band". Two years after the supergroup split, they boys decided to band together again, and after a four-day studio session Brooklyn, this dancefloor ode to seminal producer Lil' Louis was born.
Holmar was the enfant térrible of the Nordic party scene, throwing some of the first underground raves in Iceland in the early 90s and DJing at Reykjavik's finest clubs until his move to New York. In 2006 he teamed up with Greg Oreck to form Thugfucker Recordings, putting out music from D'Julz, David Duriez, Gus Gus, Mike Monday, Phonique, Adultnapper and Kalim Shabazz. Holmar and Greg also form the Thugfucker artist outfit, with their debut artist album set to drop in 2008.
It’s Sasse, the owner, A&R and main producer of Moodmusic, Mood Limited and Sunday Music Records, who delivers this MP3 mix for us though. Hailing from Finland, he holds two of the most sought-after residencies in his current home town of Berlin – at the legendary Panorama Bar and Weekend. His sound is electronic with luscious house vibes that run through deep techno styles and his remixes and productions have brought him to work with diverse artists such as Slam, Blaze, Phonique and Marco Carola on labels such as Brique Rouge, Playhouse, Soma, Moon Harbour and Dessous.
Sasse and Holmar have an EP coming on Mule Electronique and a full-length album is currently in the works. In the meantime, check out Sasse’s downloadable mix for EQ…
