Laurent Garnier returns with a new single on March 9 in the shape of the impossible to say – let alone spell – Gnanmankoudji. And if the prospect of a new tunes from Mr G isn’t enough to get you excited, it’s also the first track to come from his new album Tales Of A Kleptomaniac, due out later in the year. Gnanmankoudji is the follow-up to last year’s excellent release on Innervisions, Back To My Roots, and a quick listen reveals it’s just as impressive.
Here’s what PIAS – which is releasing Gnanmankoudji – has to say about the mixes on offer: “The Horny Monster mix starts straight with a high-energetic tempo followed by crazy tribal drum beats. The bassline and trumpet create the sweatiness that will make all the bodies slippery! This is indeed a very horny monster! The B-side, Gnanmankoudji in its original version, sounds like a fantastic afro free jazz jam session where impressive percussion parts respond to a Moog and a Rhodes, overlapped by trumpet, trombone and guitar. A masterpiece…”
