They’ve been away for a while – it’s been five years since their excellent album Phantom Theory shook up the prog house sound – but finally Futureshock are back. Time was when they were one of the leading lights of the Junior label. These days, Alex Tepper and Phil Dockerty are signed up to Renaissance, which releases their comeback single, Tiger Dust, on June 2. Said track finds the boys at their big room best. Centered round a twisted disco loop, the track builds layers of techy stabs and a complex array of percussion to create a dark, brooding slice of infectious house. On remix duties is Alex Neri of Planet Funk fame, who went on bended knee to Futureshock asking to rerub the track on hearing Tiger Dust for the first time. He turns in a classy, deep house mix with a touch of French Kiss about it. Both Mr Neri’s remix and the original have been getting major plays from the likes of John Digweed, Steve Lawler and Hernan Cattaneo. Let’s hope that persuades Alex and Phil not to wait so long till their next release…
